Presentation transcript:

Answer the following in complete sentences. (First and last) Name: _______________________ 5th Grade Social Studies Course Description 5th Grade Social Studies is an introduction to the rise of the United States. While we study numerous groups of historic people, students will also be working on fine-tuning crucial academic skills such as interpreting maps/atlases, outlining, summarizing, annotating, and conducting research. “The people, and the people alone, are the motive force in the making of world history.” - Mao Zedong Research Report: 5th graders are required to complete a U.S. history project. We will begin this endeavor upon returning from Spring Break, and a majority of the work will be completed in class. This is a research project that will help students develop an appreciation for our nation’s history. Details will be coming home at the end of 3rd Quarter. Answer the following in complete sentences. What do you want to learn in 5th grade SS? ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 2. Parent Acknowledgment All assigned HW will be written in you child’s Agenda in addition to being available on the LTS website (STUDENTS tab on the top bar, then choose the grade level and class). I expect HW to be done and ready upon entering class on the due date assigned. All work is to be neat and in pencil. Late work will be accepted with a penalty. My name is Ms. Taghon, and I am your child’s Social Studies teacher for Quarters 2 & 4 of the 2017 – 2018 school year. I have been a resident of Arizona for over 25 years. In 2010 I earned my Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education and subbed in HUSD for several years before I joined the team at LTS. My ELA background ensures that, whatever the subject, there will always be an emphasis on language and writing in my classroom. I love teaching, crafts, and immersing myself in an eclectic array of books and movies to better prepare myself for my annual adventure to the Phoenix Comicon. I currently reside with a fellow bookworm, two loving canines, and two tarantulas. Please feel free to contact me at the school with any questions or concerns you may have as the year progresses. I look forward to a great year! Parent Acknowledgment I have read and understood Ms. Taghon’s 5th grade Social Studies class information and expectations. I expect students to be respectful at all times, work hard, be prepared, and participate in class in order to ensure success.  Please check Family Link and the Agenda regularly to track your child’s progress.
