Standards and Objectives 11.2 Students analyze the relationship among the rise of industrialization, largescale rural-to- urban migration, and massive immigration from Southern and Eastern Europe. 1. Know the effects of industrialization on living and working conditions, including the portrayal of working conditions and food safety in Upton Sinclair’s The Jungle. 2. Describe the changing landscape, including the growth of cities linked by industry and trade. Objectives: Students will apply their knowledge of the key terms from Chapter 6 in a short quiz. Students will investigate the impacts of industrialization, rural to urban migration, and the changing landscape of the United States in the late 1800s (through close reading and completing C.A.T.C.H. annotations ) Students will provide written analysis and synthesize the information and extend their learning by answering thought questions embedded in the text.

The Great Railroad Strike of 1877 As you listen to the song write down any terms that really stick out to you. We will discuss the song shortly.
