What Data Shows There are 666,134 street trees on 131,488 blocks in New York City, this data only shows 6,000 Trees that are Damaged. MANHATTAN BROOKLYN QUEENS THE BRONX STATEN ISLAND
Reason we Choose this Data We choose this Data because, although 6000 trees out of 600k doesn’t seem much but these are trees that are Damaged on the sidewalk where people walk. They can fall anytime, damaging human life, houses, cars even pet so volunteer for tree census help gather data about the health to keep trees alive and replace dead ones. This helps keep trees safe for the environment
Positive trend of Data A Major Positive trends we see about the data is that a lot of the trees health is Fair and Good. As you can see in the data only 6.6 percent of the trees health is poor which is a good thing because we have more trees in the area which is good for the environment
Problem One Problem we noticed in the Tree census data is that most of our sidewalks are being damaged. As you could see in the map alot of trees are ruining our sidewalk which will make it hard for people to walk on.
Changes to Problem One way we can bring change to the problem is to fix the sidewalks that are damaged so that more people can walk on the sidewalks Another change we can bring it to try planting tree in a spot that doesn't affect the sidewalk One last change is for people to pick up any tree branches or garbage for the tree and throw it away so it won't affect our sidewalks
Conclusions One interesting conclusion I found from this project is that there are so many trees being damaged in new york city and some volunteers are giving their time to take care of them like the New York Census. Another interesting conclusion drawn was how trees are damaging the sidewalk so it's hard for people to walk on.
