Can A Stress Ball Really Relieve Stress? Stress balls and shapes have been a promotional product favourite for a long while. They’re low cost, easy to distribute to customers and have a large print area to advertise your business logo.

The question we have to ask is ‘Do they really relieve stress?’ There is very little point in having a promotional product that that isn’t practical as people won’t use it and your business logo will go unnoticed when the stress ball is thrown behind a desk, never to be seen again.

What is stress? Stress is your body’s way of responding to any type of demand or threat. When you sense danger, either real or imaginary, the body’s defences kick in and a rapid, automatic process known as the “fight-or-flight” reaction happens. The stress response is the body’s way of protecting you.

The fight or flight response When you feel threatened, your nervous system responds by releasing a flood of stress hormones including adrenaline and cortisol, which provoke the body into making an emergency action. Your heart beats quicker, muscles tense, blood pressure can rise, breath hastens and your senses become sharper. These physical changes can increase your strength and stamina, hurry your reaction time, and boost your focus. All this in turn prepares you to either fight or flee from the danger at hand.

Now, I’m not saying that working in an office is going to cause this type of reaction but, stress does happen at work. Deadlines need to be met, targets need to be hit and meetings need to be had, even when you have lots of work to do. These factors can cause stress in the employee so, is that promotional stress ball sitting on the desk going to help?

Do stress balls relieve stress? The answer is YES! The classic stress-buster actually does work. When we’re stressed out, our bodies tense and we physically clench. The stress ball stimulates you to squeeze and release, which can leave you feeling less edgy than you started.

Squeezing a stress ball is not a long term solution for stress but, it can help your body to release tension in that instant. The squeezing action is a reminder to relax the muscles that are clenched when you’re anxious, which can help avoid complications like stress headaches or pain that accompany long periods of tensing.

Promotional stress balls and shapes At bmt Promotions we have a large variety of stress balls and stress shapes, we can even make one in the shape of your bespoke business logo. We use biodegradable material to produce the products and they can all come in their own individual recyclable gift box.
