Watch For: -Proper low positioning and good 2ft stops – no foot drags Facing the same way each time Proper backward skating tech

Skating – Cross Cuts (4 times) Face the same way each time - Start at centre ice. On line of players at centre ice 1st player skates hard to blue line Does proper crossovers to the boards Skates hard to the ringette line Does proper crossovers to the boards Skates hard to the goaline Does proper crossovers to the corner Have them go pretty quickly one after the other And make sure they are all facing the right way. Watch for good balance, work on them not “twisting” their body and have them concentrate on making good crossovers . The 3rd and 4th times through, ask them to go faster After this drill 1 hard ½ lap and water

Pylon Skate – (4 times : 2 fwd/2 bwd) No sticks – two teams of 6 – half on opposite boards First person on team pushes pylon across the ice. (focus on staying low and pushing with the legs – player must have both hands on the pylon) Everyone else is on their knees facing the boards – nobody gets to cheat and start early Do this until each teammate gets a turn Losing team does 5 pushups Repeat one more time forward and then do the same drill 2X backwards Keys to watch: Good Balance Good Pushing with both legs Good C’s when going backward Get low and stay low Explain it’s tougher to do with bum in the air.

Head on Passing and Receiving (8 times total – 4 times in each pair) Keys to watch: Calling for the ring Good passes from far apart Good sighting of the ring and good receiving Make sure the lines don’t creep together Make sure they aren’t doing drop passes at this point. Do this 2 times both ways and then move one set to the other group and bring the other set into the first group Repeat 4 more times Head on passes are the toughest to make and receive so this may not go well to start, but encourage them to try hard. This will lead to drop passes and well as backward passing as well

Turns and Ring Pickup (16 Times) 1st 8 times - one side at a time Work on - Good tight turns , (no foot drags .. Inside foot in front of outside foot in straight line allows for tighter turns) calling and sighting the ring, good pickups and good hard shots to the corners . (have them try flip and sweep shots) . Girls go to opposite corner when they are finished – Run this 8 times 2nd 8 times – both sides go together in a fight for the ring Work on – Good tight turns, body positioning for protecting the ring and checking, never giving up on a play and good shots to the corners One hard half lap backwards and the water
