Classroom Rules 1. Be on time and in your seat when the bell rings. 2. Be quiet and ready to go when the bell rings. Books out, highlighter out, Chromebooks only out if instructed. 3. Bring proper books and materials to class with you. (ROR/GDL Books, Highlighters, Chromebooks) 4. Turn in all assignments on time. No late work is accepted. 5. If you are absent, see me about work to be completed. I will not hunt you down. 6. Gum: Until there is a problem with noise or unwanted gum not ending up in the trash can, it is allowed. 7. Any physical/mental condition 8. Communication: Students need to take responsibility in communicating with the driver’s education teacher or driver’s education BTW instructor. 9. Cell Phones: These never need to be out. This includes earbuds that are connected to a phone.

State Mandated Hours Class Attendance 1st Quarter: Can miss 3 Days, 4 Days = Failure 2nd Quarter: Can miss 3 Days, 4 Days = Failure (carry over 01/03 & 01/04) 3rd Quarter: Can miss 3 Days, 4 Days = Failure 4th Quarter: Can miss 2 Day, 3 Days = Failure The state requires all students to have 30 hours in the classroom before you are legal to receive Behind-The-Wheel instruction. This is state mandated. This is NOT Mt. Zion High School's rule.

State Testing State Written Test = Date will be given at the beginning of each quarter. (for example = SEPT. 25) -Mon. Review, miss 5 = Pass/miss 6 = Fail, 3 Skips, 3 times to take it, can work with you on make-up date State Vision Test = Date will be given at the beginning of each quarter, minimum acuity 20/40 and minimum 140 peripheral vision, with or without corrective lenses. If a student wears glasses or contacts a restriction will be noted on license. (for example =SEPT. 27) -Has to be done the day each quarter is given. Make-up is at the DMV where they might make you take the State Written test over again. **$20 cash, money order, or check for a Student Permit** (checks/money order must be made out Secretary Of State) Driving Exam = New driver’s will be required to take a driving exam in a vehicle representing the same size & weight classifications as the driver’s license for which they are applying. This will be done at the DMV with their instructor.

Instruction Permit Phase — Drivers Age 15 Students must complete an approved driver education course, which includes 30 hours of classroom study and 6 hours of Behind-The-Wheel training in a regular passenger vehicle. Students must be 15 to 17 years of age to receive an instruction permit. The instruction permit is valid for 24 months. The instruction permit must be held for 9 consecutive months prior to obtaining a driver’s license. An instruction permit allows students to drive with the following people: Adult Driving Instructor Legal Guardian Adult, age 21 or older, with driver’s license & 1 year of driving experience Illinois law requires that students have at least 50 hours of behind-the-wheel training, including 10 hours of nighttime driving, in addition to the student’s driver education training, before a student is eligible to obtain a driver’s license at age 16.

Permit Phase — Drivers Age 15 Nighttime driving restrictions — Sun.-Thurs., 10 p.m.-6 a.m.; Fri.-Sat., 11 p.m.-6 a.m. (local curfews may differ). Must not acquire any driving infractions, underage alcohol convictions or court supervisions during the nine-month permit phase. Number of passengers is limited to one in the front seat and the number of safety belts in the back seat.

Behind The Wheel Students who have to physically go to the DMV to receive an instruction permit will not be allowed to drive Behind-The-Wheel until we have a copy of the instruction permit on file. Students must complete 6 hours with a Mt. Zion Instructor. Instructors will contact students (through number provided) to set up lesson times. Each driver will drive their students in birthday order. Lesson Rules: Be early to lessons (Early is on time. On time is late.) Do not cancel your lessons, unless a family emergency arises (“3 Strikes you’re out!”). Surrender cell phones to instructor (observation is a part of learning!!!) Patience! We have 4-5 instructors driving with students throughout the year. There is no need to panic about not getting a phone call from an instructor. If you have not heard from us within 2 weeks of your 16th birthday and students have held permit for 9 months, contact us.

Parental Responsibility...FYI • Parental Consent — A driver age 16-17 must have the written consent of a parent/legal guardian to obtain a driver’s license. The parent/legal guardian who gave initial consent may cancel the minor’s license at any time, for any reason, until the driver turns 18 by 19 contacting the Secretary of State’s office. • Parental Access to Teen’s Driving Record — The parent/legal guardian of a person under age 18 who holds an instruction permit or graduated driver’s license may access the minor’s driving record at no cost at www.cyberdriveillinois.com, using a personal identification number (PIN) provided by the Secretary of State’s office.
