We Proclaim To You
As you read this letter you get the impression that there were some teaching a different message This is the message we have heard from him and declare to you: God is light; in him there is no darkness at all. [1John 1:5 NIV]
Whoever says, "I know him," but does not do what he commands is a liar, and the truth is not in that person. [1John 2:4 NIV] Whoever claims to live in him must live as Jesus did. [1John 2:6 NIV]
Anyone who claims to be in the light but hates a brother or sister is still in the darkness. [1Jo 2:9 NIV] As for you, see that what you have heard from the beginning remains in you. If it does, you also will remain in the Son and in the Father. [1John 2:24 NIV]
I am writing these things to you about those who are trying to lead you astray. [1John 2:26 NIV] Dear children, do not let anyone lead you astray. The one who does what is right is righteous, just as he is righteous. [1John 3:7 NIV]
5 They are from the world and therefore speak from the viewpoint of the world, and the world listens to them. 6 We are from God, and whoever knows God listens to us; but whoever is not from God does not listen to us. This is how we recognize the Spirit of truth and the spirit of falsehood. [1John 4:5-6 NIV]
1 Everyone who believes that Jesus is the Christ is born of God, and everyone who loves the father loves his child as well. 2 This is how we know that we love the children of God: by loving God and carrying out his commands. 3 In fact, this is love for God: to keep his commands. Love defined and employed In these five chapters the word love is used 35 times in 24 verses. 16 This is how we know what love is: Jesus Christ laid down his life for us. And we ought to lay down our lives for our brothers and sisters. [1John 3:16 NIV]
Love is actions and truth 17 If anyone has material possessions and sees a brother or sister in need but has no pity on them, how can the love of God be in that person? 18 Dear children, let us not love with words or speech but with actions and in truth. [1John 3:17-18 NIV]
Love is expensive 20 Whoever claims to love God yet hates a brother or sister is a liar. For whoever does not love their brother and sister, whom they have seen, cannot love God, whom they have not seen. 21 And he has given us this command: Anyone who loves God must also love their brother and sister. What does this love look like? [Romans 12:3 NIV] 3 For by the grace given me I say to every one of you: Do not think of yourself more highly than you ought, but rather think of yourself with sober judgment, in accordance with the faith God has distributed to each of you.
