Mobilising a Climate Smart Dutch Dairy sector (SLU) Dairy production accounts for 4 per cent of global GHG emissions. FrieslandCampina is one of the world’s largest dairy cooperatives and produces 80 per cent of the Netherland’s dairy produce from 18,900 member farms in Germany, Belgium and Netherlands. Exploring a practical methodology for cutting dairy sector emissions by 20 per cent by 2020 across the Netherlands’ €12bn dairy supply chain. Solutions span dietary supplements and breeding techniques, to integration of more renewable energy and efficient machinery. Knowledge-sharing of findings to wider EU dairy sector to tackle climate change o Dairy production is responsible for four percent of global manmade greenhouse gas emissions  o A team led by South Pole Group, funded by Climate-KIC’s CSA Booster Flagship Project, is exploring ways to reduce emissions in the dairy supply chain of a major cocoa producer  o Using the CSA Booster’s experience and network of experts, the project will identify and pilot technologies and practices in a handful of markets around the world  o Once these approaches are tested and fine-tuned, the company will be able to scale up its investment in emission reduction along its extensive dairy supply chain
