Magazine collage with contrasting stencil E.Lyon 2014

Term Review Bell work Try to remember these definitions(you can write or draw your responses) 1) Negative Space 2) Positive Space 3) Contrast

Goal of class today Take your magazine collage and create a contrasting stencil to paint on top of your magazine piece with You can paint inside the stencil or outside

Positive & Negative Space Simply the areas in the picture plain Positive space: area of interest Negative space: the area around the objects of interest

Faces or a Vase Depending on which one you see, determines if you see positive space or negative space

Balance of Positive & negative space Here is an image that balances the use of positive and negative space It is also using the rule of thirds!

Video about how to make a stencil How to make a stencil using paper and an overhead sheet https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BzQ38E R3aSg Remember: Have something(cardboard) under you when you are cutting out the stencil

Contrasting 1. the state of being strikingly different from something else, typically something in juxtaposition or close association."the day began cold and blustery, in contrast to almost two weeks of uninterrupted sunshine" 2. synonyms: 3. difference, dissimilarity, disparity, distinction, contradistinction, divergence, variance, variation, differentiation

By the end of class today Using your magazine cardboard(if you don’t have one you can make one) Create a stencil that shows contrast with your magazine images Spray/paint the stencil onto your magazine piece Add to it if you need to in order to turn it from a ‘so’ piece of art to an ‘oh’ piece of art Turn in Done?: If you still have other work you need to finish you can work on that,(see the back tall cupboard for the list) or free draw YOU MUST BE DOING SOMETHING

Clean Up Help clean up Make sure your area is clean and the area around you Pick up an supplies & put them back Make sure all trash is put away & not on the floor

Next Class We will start our website If you have photos of your art work already, bring it on a USB drive If not, no worries, we will start the sites and you can add photos later See you all Thursday!
