GHANA COLLEGE OF PHYSCIANS AND SURGEONS ORIENTATION FOR NEWLY ENROLLED RESIDENTS AND SENIOR RESIDENTS BY S KWAKU OFOSU ACADEMIC AFFAIRS MANAGER 18TH MARCH 2019

OUTLINE OF PRESENSENTION Registration/IDs Training Programmes Deferments Sponsorship Offences/Penalties

Registration/ identification NUMBER: Each Resident is issued with an Identification number which would be used throughout the duration of the programme. For example, it is required in writing exams, CPD attendance, Update courses etc. It is a unique identifier as far as your stay in the College is concerned. The identification number must be quoted on all correspondence to the College. The identification number follows this pattern: The Faculty initials, code, year, Resident’s number and M or F denoting Membership or Fellowship training. E.g., AN/01/15/001/M or AN/01/15/001/F respectively.

Training Programme 1. The training programmes shall be in accordance with Curricula approved by the College for each Faculty. 2.  The types of training programmes of the College shall be as follows: Continuous Professional Development programmes DPDM Update Courses Revision Courses 3. Any other training programmes approved by College Council

DEFERMENT/WITHDRAWAL Residents may be allowed to defer their programme during the course of the training period with the consent of their sponsor and the written permission of the Rector. A Resident may apply for deferment only once in the Membership training programme and approval considered under the following conditions: MEDICAL GROUNDS SUPPORTED WITH MEDICAL REPORT UNDER AGENCY OVERSEAS PROGRAMME OR ENGAGEMENT UNDER GHS/CHAG WHERE NO REPLACEMENT OF CANDIDATE AVAILABLE

DEFERMENT/WITHDRAWAL Deferment before the start of training will be considered as a withdrawal and candidates may re-apply at a later date. Permissible duration of deferment shall not exceed 12 months.

DEFERMENT/WITHDRAWAL CONT’D. APPLICATION DECLINED UNDER FOLLOWING CONDITIONS BASED ON FAMILY ISSUES ACCOMMODATION ISSUES ETC

SPONSORSHIP FOR RESIDENCY TRAINING Sponsorship for training may be by an Agency, Organization or an Individual. Sponsors of Residents/Senior Residents shall pay the agreed fee of their beneficiaries to the Ghana College of Physicians and Surgeons at the start of each academic year. Current state of affairs as far as the new condition of service is concerned

Offences Submission of false certificates of qualification and accreditation from Ghana Medical and Dental Council Falsification of documents from employers and place of work Examination mal-practice Presentation of false recommendation from any source

Offences False entries in Log Books Failure to submit Log Book at specified time for examinations Proof of committed plagiarism Any commission or omission contrary to laid down rules and regulations of the College

Penalties Imposition of a fine to be determined by the Academic Board of the College Withdrawal from programme Suspension Referral to appropriate professional body for further disciplinary action Referral for criminal prosecution Suspension or cancellation of examination results Cancellation of certificate
