Purpose of the Strategy Prepared under the Local Government Act 2002. Guides Council’s investment and work programme and the actions Council will take. The actions relate to Council’s functions (doesn’t cover all things environmental, covers the things Council is responsible for). The strategy will be included in the Long Term Plan – activity plans will deliver on the strategy.

Tauranga Moana Programme WBOPDC Draft Environment Strategy

Tauranga Moana Work Programme Actions Tauranga Harbour Inundation and Coastal Erosion models. Tauranga Harbour Margins Project. Tauranga Harbour Stream works. Coastcare. Predator Free BOP. Katikati Hills to the Ocean – H2O Improvement Project. Project Parore. IP3 Hazardous Activities and Industries List activity audits. Regional wastewater overflow forum. Water craft and general harbour access surveys. Tahataharoa land purchase and restoration project. District-wide natural environment support. Ongare wastewater scheme. Katikati wastewater treatment scheme. Seawalls. Omokoroa to Tauranga cycleway.

Draft Environment Strategy Alignment Review Council’s Stormwater Strategy. Develop green / blue network plans. Work with Tangata whenua on mapping cultural heritage sites. Implement the Tahataharoa Restoration Plan. Tauranga Moana Work Programme Tools for implementation can include low impact design. Links with catchment action plans. Can incorporate harbour margin plans, sub-catchment plans, Tauranga Harbour stream works. Could sit within a catchment management plan. Overall Vision of programme is cultural values are protected. Tahataharoa land purchase and restoration project.

Next steps: Draft Strategy as part of the Long Term Plan 2018-2028. Continued work on strategy actions and alignment with other strategies / plans / actions plans. Long Term Plan will include reviews of work programmes and budgets, including opportunities to prioritise actions.
