New Zealand is an island country in the southwestern Pacific Ocean. The island is divided to the North, South and numeros smaller islands. New Zealand is situated 1500 km from Australia and km from Poland. An airplane ticket costs about 4000 zł from Warsaw to Wellington.

Abel Tasman – Dutch explorer, he discovered islands in XVII century (1642) and he at first name it Staaten Landt. The main name of islands was given 23 years later and it was Nieuw Zeeland.

New Zealand is a constitutional monarchy without a constitution. Great Britain have influence on politics of this islands. The head of state is the British monarch.

The territory of New Zealand is divided to 16 regions and cities. The capital city is Wellington

From about the 1000 year, New Zealand was uninhabited until the Maori people started to settle the land. In 1769 after 127 years from the Tasmans discovery, another sailor James Cook began to colonize New Zealand islands.

New Zealand have diffrent surface. On the South Island there are Southern Alps with the highest peak – Cook Mountain (3754 meters) and also there is the biggest glacier (about 29 km). In the centre of New Zealand there are several volcanoes and three of them are active. There are also geysers and hot springs, which are very spectacular.

The two main religions are Anglicans and Roman Catholics. In New Zealand people drive on the left side of roads. Speed limit is between 100 km/h to 50 km/h. In Denedin there are the steepest roads in the world. The slope is 38 percent!

Most of the people come to New Zealand to see all the localizations where the Lord of the Rings was filmed. Everyone can buy a trip by bus or by plane to see this places. This country is perfect for sightseeing because there are one of the most beautiful views in the world.

In New Zealand there are many famous people. Most known are soprano Kiri Te Kanawa, Neil Finn the leader of a rock band called Crowded House, Jenet Frame the most famous New Zealand writer and novelist, Peter Jackson a director who recorded the Lord of the Rings trylogy and 2 comedians - Jemaine Clement&Bret McKenzie.
