Transaction Procedures Welcome to BSIP 101 Transaction Procedures VMRS Code Instructor: Stephen Wright DPI Technical Consultant

What is the VMRS code? Since 1970,  the purpose of VMRS has been to provide a vital communication link between maintenance personnel, computers, and management.  It establishes a “universal” language for fleets, original equipment manufacturers’ (OEMs), industry suppliers, computers, and those people whose responsibility it is to specify, purchase, operate, and maintain equipment. Developed by and for equipment users under the auspices of American Trucking Associations, VMRS provides the discipline necessary for different industry segments to communicate with each other.  VMRS is the shorthand of maintenance reporting, eliminating the need for extensive written communications with all the inherent problems of miscommunication normally associated with the written word.

Purpose: To discover a VMRS number for a stockable material item.

One transaction is required to complete this procedure: MM03 Let’s get started -

Your screen should look similar to the example at the right. From the SAP R/3 Easy Access screen box type MM03 or from your favorites menu, select transaction MM03 – Material Number Search Your screen should look similar to the example at the right.

Display Material (Initial Screen) A new window opens: Display Material (Initial Screen) Input the nine digit material number of the item you are searching the VMRS code for within the Material field. (Ex: IBA001981) Click on the Continue icon or press the <Enter> key to continue.

Organizational Levels A new window opens: Organizational Levels The Plant and Storage Location fields will automatically default to your County’s Plant and Storage Location fields. (For the example we used Macon County) Change the Plant field to 6000 and remove the value displayed in the Storage Location field. Click on the Continue icon or press the <Enter> key to continue.

Display Material {#########} (Semi-finished products) A new window opens: Display Material {#########} (Semi-finished products) Click on the tab titled Classification.

A new window opens: Class Type Double click on the class type titled Material Class.

A new window opens: Classification The VMRS code will be displayed in the Value column on the General tab.
