Maths and Reading 2017-2018

Aims To transfer or increase the percentage of children working at greater depth in mathematics to between 25-33% by improving teaching in problem solving and investigations across the school. Maths To increase the number of children working at ARE in inference in Year 2 up to Year 6. Reading

What we did Maths Data analysis Staff meetings and INSETs Liaison with Hampshire maths team and hub. Monitoring and Mentoring/coaching

What we did Reading Inference course Monitoring and coaching Staff meetings to share strategies Data analysis

Impact on us as leaders Widened our subject knowledge. Identified mentoring and coaching role and how to adjust between the two for different members of staff. Developed confidence with using data and identifying trends and next steps. Viewed as middle leaders with a responsibility to drive a core subject. Developed confidence to hold people to account.

Next Steps Maths Anchor problem solving into whole school culture. 2) As recommended by Maths Advisor, to embed the bar model into whole school practise. Reading How to engage parents in a proactive way in reading. 2) To develop pleasure for reading.

Collaborative Next Steps To continue develop coaching strategies with members of staff across the school. Monitoring of data and books in preparation for Ofsted.

2018-19 Writing - Developing thinking and discussion to increase the progress in Greater Depth. Reading – continue with inference and make sure skills are embedded. Focus on Reading for Pleasure. Maths – developing depth of understanding in mathematical concepts to enable children to access more complex problems. Improving quality teaching with the use of cut away groups.
