Revision Techniques

What is Revision? It means going over previous work on a regular basis: To remind you of all the things you have forgotten To make links with other learning to see the bigger picture To reinforce and enhance learning To check understanding To remind you of what you don’t already know To retain more information

Why encourage your child to revise? It reduces panic/stress It means that their exam results will show what they can do, not what they didn’t do It helps identify areas of challenge that your child is experiencing It will aid progress improve their results It helps their self-esteem and encourages a positive outlook on their education

Why should I help my child revise? Research and experience shows that pupils whose parents/carers show a regular and active engagement with their child’s learning make positive progress You get to know your child’s strengths and weakness Discussing their work with them strengthens their understanding Many students don’t know how to revise effectively-your support will help this

Be Organised Appropriate environment-quiet/away from distractions, sat at a desk or table Organise school books and notes in an orderly manner Clarify topics and areas of study with teachers Have appropriate equipment- pens, pencils, notebooks, paper, highlighters Create a timetable to plan study Ensure you have plenty of food and water

Revision is not: Sitting with lots of books and surrounded by paper Writing lots and lots of essays Sitting for 6 hours at a time Using your mobile phone Being in a room full of people
