Presentation transcript:

Broken Embraces Pedro Almodovar

At the start of the film we see a middle aged blind man, who writes scripts for films, called Harry Caine make full use of his remaining senses whilst he seduces a young attractive woman. We later see the same writer, who still has use of his eyes, called Mateo Blanco. Through flashbacks, we see the story of how a younger Mateo Blanco fell in love with an actress named Lena who performs in one of his films. A old rich man who produces the film which Blanco is writing also falls in love with Lena which creates jealousy as Lena prefers real love from a good man rather than love from an old man throwing money at her, he also pushes her down some stairs.  Narrative

Micro features Editing - Slow paced, Non-linear Cinematography - Long, extra-long shots of the Lanzarote landscape when it gets visited by Lena and Mateo. Common use throughout of bright, primary colours

Representation - Men are represented as being easily manipulated by Women and when they don't get their own way with them they become evil. -The women seem to like the older, rich men featured in the film showing how money is being used by these characters for love cause they can't get any of it more naturally. -The film includes two central female characters: Judit and Lena who are seen to live up to female gender stereotypes such as women as mothers, carers as mentioned already.

Characters throughout who hold information about the past do not always share it. Key plot points are regularly revealed through minor characters and flashbacks.  The non-linear structure is used frequently and seamlessly with the film taking place equally in both time periods. Narrative
