*CALL TO WORSHIP (from Psalm 97) L: The Lord is king! Let the earth rejoice; let the many coastlines be glad! P: Clouds and thick darkness are all around him;

righteousness and justice are the foundation of his throne righteousness and justice are the foundation of his throne. L: Fire goes before him and consumes his adversaries on every side.

P: His lightnings light up the world; the earth sees and trembles P: His lightnings light up the world; the earth sees and trembles. L: The mountains melt like wax before the Lord, before the Lord of all the earth.

P: The heavens proclaim his righteousness; and all the peoples behold his glory. L: All worshipers of images are put to shame, those who make their boast in worthless idols;

all gods bow down before him all gods bow down before him. P: Zion hears and is glad, and the towns of Judah rejoice, because of your judgments, O God.

L: For you, O Lord, are most high over all the earth; you are exalted far above all gods. P: The Lord loves those who hate evil; he guards the lives of his faithful;

he rescues them from the hand of the wicked he rescues them from the hand of the wicked. L: Light dawns for the righteous, and joy for the upright in heart. ALL: Rejoice in the Lord, O you righteous, and give thanks to his holy name!

SCRIPTURE READING 1 Corinthians 11:17-22

Now in the following instructions I do not commend you, because when you come together it is not for the better but for the worse. For, to begin with, when you come together as a church, I hear that there are divisions among you; and to some extent, I believe it.

Indeed, there have to be factions among you, for only so will it become clear who among you are genuine. When you come together, it is not really to eat the Lord’s supper. For when the time comes to ear, each of you goes ahead with your own supper, and one goes hungry and another becomes drunk.

What. Do you not have homes to eat and drink in What! Do you not have homes to eat and drink in? Or do you show contempt for the church of God and humiliate those who have nothing? What should I say to you? Should I condemn you? In this matter I do not commend you!

CHOIR ANTHEM

TIME WITH YOUNG CHRISTIANS “Roll the Dice”

*HYMN #513 “Let Us Break Bread Together” v.2 Let us drink wine together on our knees (repeat) When I fall on my knees with my face to the rising sun, O Lord, have mercy on me.

*HYMN #513 “Let Us Break Bread Together” v.3 Let us praise God together on our knees (repeat) When I fall on my knees with my face to the rising sun, O Lord, have mercy on me.

PROCLAIMING THE WORD SCRIPTURE READING 1 Corinthians 11:27-29

Whoever, therefore, eats the bread or drinks the cup of the Lord in an unworthy manner will be answerable for the body and blood of the Lord. Examine yourselves, and only then eat of the bread and drink of the cup.

For all who eat and drink without discerning the body, eat and drink judgment against themselves. L: This is the Word of the Lord. P: Thanks be to God!

“You Are What You Eat” Rev. Darla Bair

*HYMN #507 “I Come with Joy” v.1 I come with joy to meet my Lord, Forgiven, loved, and free, In awe and wonder to recall His life laid down for me, His life laid down for me.

*HYMN #507 “I Come with Joy” v.2 I come with Christians far and near to find, as all are fed, The new community of love in Christ’s communion bread, in Christ’s communion bread.

*HYMN #507 “I Come with Joy” v.3 As Christ breaks bread and bids us share, each proud division ends. The love that made us, makes us one, and strangers now are friends, and strangers now are friends.

*HYMN #507 “I Come with Joy” v.4 And thus with joy we meet our Lord. His presence, always near, Is in such friendship better known; we see and praise Him here, we see and praise Him here.

*HYMN #507 “I Come with Joy” v.5 Together met, together bound, we’ll go our different ways, And as His people in the world, we’ll live and speak His praise, we’ll live and speak His praise.

OFFERING OUR GIFTS TO GOD Offertory Invitation Offertory

*DOXOLOGY #542 v.4 Praise God from whom all blessings flow; Praise Him all creatures here below; Praise Him above, ye heavenly host; Praise Father, Son, and Holy Ghost.

*PRAYER OF DEDICATION (unison) Creator God, Source of all Love, we ask that you bless these gifts and help us to use them wisely for your kingdom on earth. Amen.

RESPONDING TO THE WORD JOYS AND CONCERNS PRAYERS OF THE PEOPLE

THE SACRAMENT OF THE LORD’S SUPPER All who trust in Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior are invited to participate in the Sacrament of the Lord’s Table. With parental permission, baptized children are welcome to partake in the Sacrament as well.

*INVITATION TO THE LORD’S TABLE L: Brothers and sisters in Christ, I invite you to come to the joyful feast of the Lord. This Table, at its core, is about love – unconditional love which laid down its life for each of you.

*HYMN #516 “Lord, We Have Come” v.1 Lord, we have come at Your own invitation, Chosen by You, to be counted Your friends; Yours is the strength that sustains dedication, Ours a commitment we know never ends.

*THE GREAT PRAYER OF THANKSGIVING L: May the God of Sabbath be with you. P: And also with you. L: Lift up your hearts to God. P: We offer them to the One who fills us with compassion for all.

L: We thank you, God, for the compassion and caring with which you created this world. We are grateful that you formed us in your image and breathed into us that same compassion for others. When we turned away and set aside our compassion, you spoke to us through your prophets and your love delivered us from sin.

In all of this you showed us love and taught us how to love In all of this you showed us love and taught us how to love. Through the ages you have loved everyone, regardless. So with your people on earth and all the company of heaven, we praise your name and join their unending hymn:

P: Holy, holy, holy Lord, God of love and caring, heaven and earth are full of your glory and compassion. Hosanna in the highest. Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord. Hosanna in the highest. L: In sending Jesus the Christ, the obedient one, you revealed to all of us how your love works. He healed bodies and hearts.

He knew the Law and knew it was all about loving you and loving others He knew the Law and knew it was all about loving you and loving others. He made sure all Law pointed to compassion for all your children. For that we are deeply thankful. P: Praise to you, Lord Jesus: By dying, you destroyed sin and death; by rising, you offer us resurrection life. Lord Jesus, come again.

L: God of understanding, let your Holy Spirit move in power and love other us and over these earthly gifts of bread and wine. By our sharing of them may we experience the mystery of true communion of the body and blood of Christ, and may we become one in him.

The Lord’s Prayer (unison) Our Father, who art in Heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy Kingdom come; thy will be done on Earth as it is in Heaven.

Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our debts as we forgive our debtors; and lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil.

For thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory, forever. Amen.

WORDS OF INSTITUTION

L: On the night he was arrested, while they were eating, Jesus reached over, took some bread, gave thanks to God. Then he broke it, and gave it to his disciples and told them, “Take this, and eat it. This is my body, given for you. Do this remembering me and my example.”

In the same way he took the cup from the table and said, “This cup I have here is the new covenant, new hope, which will be sealed in my blood, which I will shed for you for the forgiveness of your sins. Whenever you drink it, remember me.”

Jesus tells us boldly: “I am the bread of life Jesus tells us boldly: “I am the bread of life. If any of you come to me, you won’t be hungry; if any of you believe in me, you will never be thirsty.” Friends, every time you eat this bread and drink this cup, you proclaim the saving death of the risen Lord until he comes – and you experience the grace of God.

SHARING OF THE BREAD AND CUP Distribution of the Bread (bread is gluten free) (to symbolize our common experience of God’s grace, please retain the bread until all have been served).

SHARING OF THE BREAD AND CUP Distribution of the Cup (to symbolize our individual experience of God’s grace, please drink the cup as it is served).

PRAYER AFTER COMMUNION (unison) Loving God, we give you thanks for healing our hearts with this holy meal. May the love and compassion we experience here enable us to fulfill your command to love one another. Thanks be to God, Amen.
