Wooden Teeth ? Chopping Down A Cherry Tree? Is This Really Me?

George Washington Many people think I had wooden teeth and chopped down a cherry tree. These are myths about me. Id like you to discover many true facts about my life and me.

Born: February 22, 1732 Parents: Augustine and Mary Ball Washington Where: Popes Creek Plantation in Virginia

Education His early education included the study of such subjects as mathematics, surveying, the classics, and "rules of civility."

George Washington really enjoyed school, and his favorite subject was Math.

Georges love of math sparked an interest in surveying land. He used a compass and surveyors chains to practice measuring land at Mount Vernon, the plantation where he lived with his brother Lawrence. Turnip Patch Survey

When George was 16 years old, he accompanied men who were surveying Virginias western frontier for Lord Fairfax. The trip convinced George to choose the occupation of surveyor.

In 1752, Washington joined the Virginia Militia.

On January 6, 1759 George marries Martha Custis.

In 1775, George becomes Commander in Chief of the Continental Army.

George returns home to Mount Vernon when the Revolutionary War ends in 1783.

On February 4, 1789 George is elected as the first President of the United States of America.

In March of 1797 George retires as President and returns to Mount Vernon where he continues to farm and ride his horses.

On December 14, 1799 George Washington dies at Mount Vernon. People pay their respects to a great American hero at Mount Vernon.

People continue to honor George Washington in many ways. Our nations capital is named in honor of him He has a national monument in our Nations capital.

Many cities, buildings, roads, and schools are named in honor of George Washington. His picture appears on the one dollar bill and the quarter.
