Growth population and insufficiency of food Will we have enough food for 2050? Vasiliki Viltanioti Konstantinos Vamvakas

Overpopulation The number of inhabitants is rising in every country. Our planet can offer a quality of life to no more than 2 billion people. With a population of 8 to 10 billion, welfare per person on a world scale will drop to that of a poor farmer. The only solution is a population policy applied on a worldwide scale.

THE EVOLUTION OF THE POPULATION EVERY YEAR Year (July 1) Population Yearly % Change 2050 9,771,822,753 0.56% 2035 8,892,701,940 0.79 % 2020 7,795,482,309 1.09 % 2000 6,145,006,989 1.33 % 1980 4,458,411,534 1.79 % 1960 3,033,212,527 1.82 %

Conclusion : In 90 years that have passed the population has tripled 1960 3,033,212,527 1.82% 2050 9,771,822,753 0.56%

POPULATION PER CONTINENTS (2018) Region Population (2018) Yearly Change 1 Asia 4,545,133,094 0.9 % 2 Africa 1,287,920,518 2.52 % 3 Europe 742,648,010 0.08 % 4 Latin America and the Caribbean 652,012,001 0.99 % 5 Northern America 363,844,490 0.73 % 6 Oceania 41,261,212 1.4 % Greece is the 84th country with the biggest population in the world It has almost 11.100.00 This year the Greek population has decreased by 0.16% Greece

Growth Population – Food Insufficiency EFFECTS The United States Department of Agriculture reckons that the number of hungry (“food insecure”) people in sub-Saharan Africa will rise by a third and that food production will need to increase by 70%.

Growth Population – Food Insufficiency EFFECTS However , agricultural productivity is often shockingly low in “traditional” farming practices. A possible solution is eliminating waste, for example by drip-feed irrigation, and that could raise food production by 60% or more.

DRIP – IRRIGATION SYSTEM Drip-irrigation saves water by allowing it to drip to the roots of plants either from above or below the surface.

Innovative production methods Genetic Editing The Drones  Urban Agriculture Blockchain Technology Artificial Intelligence

Food Assistance Food demand in the future will require significant imports, or opening up new land to development that may not be suitable for sustainable production.

Sustainable production Sustainable production means applying practices into the production process in order to reduce their overall carbon footprint. They are certainly “greening” a production. Sustainable production

Effects of Sustainable Production promotion of eco-friendly methods reduction of negative environmental impacts being an active member of the process keeping in line with the overall production budget
