Early disclosure to the Working Group of patent information that might be relevant to the standard is essential to reduce the possibility for delays in the development process and increase the likelihood that the draft publication will be approved for publication. Please notify the Chair <stuart.kerry@philips.com> as early as possible, in written or electronic form, if patented technology (or technology under patent application) might be incorporated into a draft standard being developed within the IEEE 802.11 Working Group. January 2995 doc.: IEEE 802.11-05/1215r1 November 2005 Introduction Document 11-05/0969 does not spell out the use case for outdoor environments. The outdoor cases are crucially important for sectors such as campus, community, public safety and military. D. J. Shyy, MITRE DJ Shyy, MITRE

November 2005 Outdoor Use Case The outdoor use case addresses more on the uniqueness of the environment which is affected by the weather/climate (e.g. heat, snow, and smog) and obstructions height/thickness/material (e.g. trees, buildings, rocks, and water). And it is more susceptible to co-channel, and adjacent channel interferences. The examples include campus, community, public access, public safety and military. The typical metrics include throughput, delay and delay jitter. D. J. Shyy, MITRE
