PA Rules of Professional Conduct 6.1 Rule 6.1 Voluntary Pro Bono Publico Service A lawyer should render public interest legal service. A lawyer may discharge this responsibility by providing professional services at no fee or a reduced fee to persons of limited means or to public service or charitable groups or organizations, by service in activities for improving the law, the legal system or the legal profession, and by financial support for organizations that provide legal services to persons of limited means. PA Rules of Professional Conduct 6.1

What Can Lawyers Do? Do Pro Bono Be concerned about the lack of access to justice Promote access to justice as a benefit to society as a whole Let others—friends, representatives, media—know of your concern! Push for a statewide access to justice commission! What Can Lawyers Do?

Technology and Pro Bono Learn about the two websites in use at the clinic through these links: PALawHelp.org PAProbono.net Technology and Pro Bono

Volunteer Hours Multiply Dollars* Know that volunteer hours help stretch limited legal services dollars. Pro bono alone cannot make up the difference of what is needed but it is good for the justice system, good for the clients helped, and good for your soul! *But that doesn’t mean you cannot also give financially!

Pa Supreme Court Approves Program Creating Emeritus Status for Retired Attorneys… Retired Pennsylvania attorneys interested in providing pro bono legal service will now be eligible for emeritus status through a new program approved by the Supreme Court of Pennsylvania.

Recognizing the importance of pro bono service, the Pennsylvania Supreme Court has approved the creation of a new continuing legal education (CLE) pilot program aimed at increasing support for civil legal aid for low- income Pennsylvanians. The pilot program will allow licensed Pennsylvania lawyers to earn CLE credit for approved pro bono service in the community through certified legal service providers.
