A Hunger For the Holy Session 6 Walking in Obedience

What would you say are the 3 most Important words in the English language? The most important word in the New Testament is LORD

“Why do you call me ‘Lord, Lord,’ and don’t do the things I say “Why do you call me ‘Lord, Lord,’ and don’t do the things I say?  I will show you what someone is like who comes to me, hears my words, and acts on them: (Luke 6:46-47 CSB)

“Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only the one who does the will of my Father in heaven.  On that day many will say to me, ‘Lord, Lord, didn’t we prophesy in your name, drive out demons in your name,

and do many miracles in your name and do many miracles in your name? ’ Then I will announce to them, ‘I never knew you. Depart from me, you lawbreakers!  (Matt 7:21-23 CSB)

What does it mean to call Jesus Lord? To obey is to call Christ Lord; to disobey is to claim the word for ourselves. The question is will you have a Lord, or be one?

and follow it with all my heart. Teach me, Lord, the meaning of your statutes, and I will always keep them.  Help me understand your instruction, and I will obey it and follow it with all my heart. (Ps 119:33-34 CSB)

What does it take to finish strong as a disciple of Jesus?

Because lawlessness will multiply, the love of many will grow cold Because lawlessness will multiply, the love of many will grow cold. But the one who endures to the end will be saved. (Matt 24:12-13 CSB)

Jesus came near and said to them, “All authority has been given to me in heaven and on earth. Go, therefore, and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit,

teaching them to observe everything I have commanded you teaching them to observe everything I have commanded you. And remember,† I am with you always,† to the end of the age.” (Matt 28:18-20 CSB)

Before the Passover Festival, Jesus knew that his hour had come to depart from this world to the Father. Having loved his own who were in the world, he loved them to the end. (John 13:1 CSB)

He will also strengthen you to the end, so that you will be blameless in the day of our Lord Jesus Christ (1 Cor 1:8 CSB)

Help me understand your instruction, and I will obey it and follow it with all my heart. Help me stay on the path of your commands, for I take pleasure in it. (Ps 119:34-35 CSB)

Is the psalmist implying we only obey God’s law if we understand it Is the psalmist implying we only obey God’s law if we understand it? What is he saying?

And I pray this: that your love will keep on growing† in knowledge and every kind of discernment, so that you may approve the things that are superior and may be pure and blameless in the day of Christ, filled with the fruit of righteousness that comes through Jesus Christ to

the glory and praise of God. (Phil 1:9-11 CSB) How can we gain the kind of discernment that compels us to obey with understanding?

What is the attitude of the person who loves Christ supremely? Yes, Lord, we wait for you in the path of your judgments. Our desire is for your name and renown. (Isa 26:8 CSB) What is the attitude of the person who loves Christ supremely?

Be diligent to present yourself to God as one approved, a worker who doesn’t need to be ashamed, correctly teaching the word of truth (2 Tim 2:15 CSB)

and you know that from infancy you have known the sacred Scriptures, which are able to give you wisdom for salvation† through faith in Christ Jesus. All Scripture is inspired by God and is profitable for teaching, for rebuking, for correcting, for training in

Why is it essential to study and know God’s Work? righteousness, so that the man of God may be complete, equipped for every good work (2 Tim 3:15-17 CSB) Why is it essential to study and know God’s Work?

Then the King will say to those on his right, ‘Come, you who are blessed by my Father; inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world. “ ‘For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat; I was thirsty and you gave me something to

drink; I was a stranger and you took me in; I was naked and you clothed me; I was sick and you took care of me; I was in prison and you visited me.’ “Then the righteous will answer him, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you

something to drink? When did we see you a stranger and take you in, or without clothes and clothe you? When did we see you sick, or in prison, and visit you? ’ “And the King will answer them, ‘Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and

sisters of mine, you did for me sisters of mine, you did for me.’ “Then he will also say to those on the left, ‘Depart from me, you who are cursed, into the eternal fire prepared for the devil and his angels! For I was hungry and you gave me nothing to eat; I was thirsty and you gave me nothing

to drink; I was a stranger and you didn’t take me in; I was naked and you didn’t clothe me, sick and in prison and you didn’t take care of me.’ “Then they too will answer, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry, or thirsty, or a stranger, or without clothes, or sick, or in prison,

“Then he will answer them, ‘I tell you, whatever you did not do for one of the least of these, you did not do for me.’ (Matt 25:34-45 CSB) What distinguished whether Jesus really was Lord of these 2 groups of people?

How can we grow increasingly more obedient to the Lord? What evidences in your life indicate you have submitted to Jesus as Lord?
