What is the Florida Standards Assessment? “The FSA” Florida’s K-12 assessment system measures students’ achievement of Florida’s education standards, which were developed and implemented to ensure that all students graduate from high school ready for success in college, career, and life. Assessment supports instruction and student learning, and test results help Florida’s educational leadership and stakeholders determine whether the goals of the education system are being met..

When will my child take the FSA? 3rd Grade 4th Grade 5th Grade ELA April 3 & April 4, 2019 (80 minutes each) WRITING April 3, 2019 (120 minutes) MATH May 6 & May 7, 2019 May 1 and May 2, 2019 SCIENCE May 8 & May 9, 2019 Recommend that students are here ON TIME each test day. Make up days are available, but students will be testing in an unknown setting, with an unknown proctor. ELA and MATH Tests are broken up into two sessions each and are TIMED. Writing Test (4th/5th): Students will receive a prompt and 2-3 reading passages. Students must analyze the prompt, read the passages, take notes, and answer the writing prompt within the 120 minute time frame. *ALL Tests will be Paper-Based

What are we doing to help your child prepare for the FSA? Weekly lab time to complete i-Ready Differentiated Instruction Modeling and sharing activities to practice the skills and question types on the test. FSA-style Homework FSA-style Assessments Writing Prompts & Conferencing -i-Ready is a program that we have been using to help bridge the gap in foundational skills in math and reading -In class interventions that include: differentiated instruction – small groups and WonderWorks -Students have a lot of modeling, and sharing activities – such as task cards to practice the skills and tests we have created to familiarize students with question types

What can you do at home? i-Ready Read together EVERY night Use FSA Task Cards Ask your child questions while and after reading Make sure your child is using TEXT EVIDENCE Review multiplication and division tables Review your child’s homework Read with your child EVERY night, at least 20-30 min. Read different types of books and informational text with your child. Use the FSA Task cards to ask them questions about what is being read. Ask your child questions about what he or she is learning in class. Ask your child to find answers to questions in the text of books, newspaper articles, manuals, etc. Make sure you child is going back into the text to answer reading comprehension questions. Review the TIMES TABLES and DIVISION TABLES daily. You can practice in the car, at breakfast, at the store.

FSA Tutoring FSA ELA & MATH January 7, 2019- March 21, 2019 Mondays & Wednesdays – 7:15 AM to 8:15 AM Tuesdays & Thursdays - 3:15 PM to 4:15 PM *Selected students only (Students were be chosen for tutoring based on the previous year's SAT/FSA scores and/or iReady AP2 scores) *5th Grade Science- Forthcoming MANDATORY

iReady Students must be completing 45 minutes of Reading and 45 minutes of Math WEEKLY Students will be graded on completion * i-Ready Lab will be available to all students on Fridays from 7:15AM-8:00AM starting on January 11th
