VIDEO ANALYSIS The basics

Focus on the basic fundamentals: Balance Alignment KEEP IT SIMPLE!!!!! Focus on the basic fundamentals: Balance Alignment Posture and head positions Swing paths Injury risks Otherwise you can analyse someone to death! State only observations first (observation sheet). Only write down what you see. No opinions Then: Analyse technique on analysis sheet SOME OPTIONS SOFTWARE OPTIONS: We use Kinovea- free download

When videoing a bowler, take three quality clips: from directly behind bowler; directly in front (behind the net and parallel to the bowling crease facing his chest). The same for a batsmen. Ensure the body and arms almost fill the screen at delivery or contact (see examples below) DO NOT TAKE THE CLIP FROM TOO FAR AND USE A TRIPOD FOR A STILL SHOT

KEY POINTS TO LOOK FOR: BATTING SET UP DOWNSWING Grip Acceleration/deceleration Head position Body positions Body alignment CONTACT Balance Head/body/feet alignment STEP/SWING Bat position Balance / stability Straight lines Swing-path FOLLOW THROUGH Weight transfer Timing of movement Swing path TOP OF BACKSWING Bat face angle and height Hinging of wrists

WHAT TO LOOK FOR: BOWING APPROACH DELIVERY STRIDE Grip Length Arm movement Weight transfer Head position Body movement / position Balance Alignment Angle of run up FRONT FOOT IMPACT Pace of run up – acceleration? Front foot direction Body position (leaning?) Arm positions (both NB horizontal?) GATHER / BOUND Body alignment / position Head position / eyes Front knee braced? Both above also at contact? Elbow positioning Soft hands / giving to the ball? FOOTWORK Starting position Pattern Weight distribution Speed BALANCE SPEED AGILITY Through movement

This is just a basic guideline As already mentioned – KEEP IT SIMPLE! Give feedback to your players and let them watch the clips!
