Welcome Introductions Purpose: all stakeholders share in the decision making process for the development of the Title I Plan, Budget and Family and Community Engagement Documents. At your school At the district level Local School Plan for Improvement (LSPI) District Improvement Plan (DIP) Family and Community Engagement Policy District Family and Community Engagement Policy Title I Budget District Title I Budget Today, we will accomplish two tasks. First, we will look at Title I programs through the lens of our local school. We are also going to see Title I programs as a whole in Gwinnett County Public Schools. Looking from both view points, we will review student data, our goals for the upcoming school year, the Title I budget and family engagement documents.

Welcome: Title I Overview Largest federal education grant Supports academically at risk students Provides workshops and training for parents/families Funding based on poverty estimates and the cost of education Provides additional resources to assist with education of children Title I is the largest federal assistance program for schools. Provides support to students who are most at risk of not meeting state academic standards. Supports parents by offering workshops and training opportunities to increase involvement in their children’s education. GCPS receives Title I funds from the US Department of Education (USED) via the Georgia Department of Education (GaDOE) to provide additional resources to assist with the education of our children.

Brief Summary of Parent Survey (RBES Parent Perception Data) What were the results of previous year’s survey? Spanish 54%, English 46 % Overall score: 3.4 out of 4 points Highest scores: 3.5 in communication and facilities Lowest scores: 3.3 in technology, responsiveness, engagement, discipline, and citizenship. How will we use this information? look for solutions to improve our programs and areas with lowest scores 2015 2016 2017 2018 220 273 263 259

Brief Summary of School Demographics Guidance: Based on your needs assessment, share the areas of strength and areas of challenge. Be mindful that the goal is to share the information, not to have a deep data dive with parents.

Brief Summary of School Achievement Data: Language Arts GMAS data has not returned for this year. The following is second semester district data: While our students are showing growth in language arts from the pre-test to the post-test, we are not where we would like to be. There is more room to grow in order to meet our LSPI goal for the year.

Brief Summary of School Achievement Data: Mathematics GMAS data has not returned for this year. The following is second semester district data: The vast majority of our students are currently taking accelerated math. There is much room to grow in our “on grade level’ math.

Brief Summary of School Achievement Data: Science GMAS data has not returned for this year. The following is second semester district data: While we have seen great growth from the pre-test to the post-test in science we haven’t reached our LSPI goal this year. The post test that our students will take later in the month will determine our success.

Brief Summary of School Achievement Data: Social Studies GMAS data has not returned for this year. The following is second semester district data: In the area of social studies, our students grew at least 25%. However like the other subjects, we have not reached our LSPI goal at this time.

Brief Summary of School Discipline Data We currently have 9% of students classified as “at risk” due to behavior. Last year this number was at 6%.

Brief Summary of School Attendance Data

What does the data tell us? Strengths? Challenges? Strengths: Students are showing growth in all four content areas. Attendance is in line with GCPS data. Challenges: Our students are not meeting the LSPI goal in the four content areas. More of our students are at risk due to behavior than last year.

LSPI: Goals We are in the process of developing our LSPI goals for the 2019-2020 school year. Last week we completed our needs assessment. Current LSPI Goal: Increase the number of students scoring in the proficient or distinguished categories on district assessments and the Georgia Milestones Assessment to 50% We will have at least one academic achievement goal for the 2019-2020 school year.

LSPI: Goals How do we plan to accomplish these goals? This year, we focused on literacy, balanced numeracy, building parent capacity, and increasing rigor and critical thinking. Next year’s implementation plan will be developed after we develop our LSPI goals. Please add your suggestions to the Input Form under the section labeled School Goals.

Family and Community Engagement Documentation Family and Community Engagement Plan how the school will provide opportunities to improve family engagement that will support student learning at school and at home. Support numeracy and literacy Please add you comments/suggestions to the Input Form under the section labeled Family and Community Engagement Plan. Family and Community Engagement Plan: Establishes the school’s expectations for parent/family engagement; Describes how the school will implement a number of specific meaningful family engagement activities designed to increase student academic achievement; Review your draft copy of the Plan and ask attendees to provide input and suggestions for revision on the school level input form.

Family and Community Engagement Documentation School-Family Compact Serves as an agreement that parents, students and teachers develop together Outlines how we will share the responsibilities and partner to meet the State and district academic standards. Tied to a school goal. Please add you comments/suggestions to the Input Form under the section labeled School- Family Compact. School-Family Compacts: Serve as an agreement that parents, students and teachers develop together explaining how they will partner to ensure that students meet State and district academic standards. Tied to a school goal. Focus on specific academic skill(s) in the targeted content area(s). Connects the school, parent and student responsibilities to the academic skill. Review your draft copy of the compact and ask attendees to provide input and suggestions for revision on the school level input form.

Evaluations and Input Save the date! Document Review period: Documents will be available on the website and in the parent center for your review and input May 7, 8, and 9. What other opportunities do families have to provide input regarding Title I components? Parent information meeting in August 2020; Contact the Parent Instructional Coordinator; visit the parent center; attend parent workshops What will we do with the input provided? The input you provide will help us prioritize how to spend the funds received by Title 1. Your input will be discussed and considered for implementation if it benefits the achievement of our students. Input is also used to improve the workshops that we offer our parents. Please announce the Document Review Period -- dates, times and method (in local school or online). Ask meeting attendees to share this information with people they know who were unable to attend the planning meeting.
