In my presentation I’ll show you the CB activities and the capabilities offered by the Italian Navy trough the Italian Navy Hydrographic Institute. CAPACITY BUILDING ITALIAN CONTRIBUTION ON JOB TRAINING Prova intestazione CAPACITY BUILDING ITALIAN CONTRIBUTION ON JOB TRAINING SURVEYS (Hydrography, Geodesy, Topography, Oceanography and Marine Geophysics/Geology) performed with IT Survey Vessels and Survey Boat/Rubber-boat: Sea Time & Field Survey during the HS Course practical stage (in ITALY) FOREIGN STUDENTS benefited from activities in their Countries focused on training aspects (ABROAD – Navies Bil Coop umbrella) HYDROGRAPHIC DATA COLLECTED with modern and high resolution methodologies to increase the charts updating status and to improve safety of navigation (port areas and access routes) 3

EDUCATIONAL & TRAINING COURSES High Level Courses Standard of Competence for Category B Hydrographic Surveyors IBSC certificate n° 148 of 17 April 2014 (expiring 2020 after 6 years) 2016-2017 2017-2021 2020-2021 7th Marine Geomatics Master Master of Science in Hydrography & Oceanography 8th Marine Geomatics Master Cat. A Hydro Surveyors RECOGNISED FIG/IHO/ICA IBSC IHO S–5 11th Edition Version 11.0.1 (May 2011) 3 COHORTS RESUBMISSION TO IHO S–5A 1st Edition Version 1.0.1 (June 2017) Language : English Duration: 14 months (2 months of training on board) Language : English Duration: 24 months (2 months of training on board Training is considered of paramount importance for the IIM. The Institute has organized the following Hydrographic Surveyors Category A courses and activities: Post graduate degree in Marine Geomatics. The duration of this course is 14 months, plus a 3-month stage on board hydro-oceanographic ships. It is one of the longest courses offered in Italy and possibly among the most complete in the whole world; For the next two years it will be available a Master of science course with 24 months duration; After a positive completion of exams and Complex Multi-disciplinary Field Project (CMFP) the IIM release a Certificate of the Hydrographic Surveyors Category A Programme Course; Moreover Students are required to have a satisfactory period of relevant experience (two years) on the job to gain and demostrate a full professional competence compiling a Work Experience Loogbook, in order to have been assessed the level of competence with a Certificate of 24 months of Hydrographic Surveying Category A professional competence awarded by IIM at national level. 4

The Institute has organized the following Hydrographic Surveyors Category B courses and activities: Intermediate Course for military/civilian people. The duration of this course is 8 ½ months, inclusive of at minimum of 8 weeks on board hydro-oceanographic ships. After a positive completion of exams and Comprehensive Final Field Project (CFFP) the IIM release a Certificate of the Hydrographic Surveyors Category A Programme Course; Moreover Students are required to have a satisfactory period of relevant experience (two years) on the job to gain and demostrate a full professional competence compiling a Work Experience Loogbook, in order to have been assessed the level of competence with a Certificate of 24 months of Hydrographic Surveying Category B professional competence awarded by IIM at national level. 5
