Redefinition of Business Continuity Strategies using Cloud Native Enterprise Architectures Frank Stienhans, CTO August 2016
Abstract Both production and non-production landscapes are massively effected by the rewritten laws of physics in the cloud. One opportunity of Cloud Native Enterprise Architectures is to redefine the approaches to Business Continuity and Disaster Recovery. Using SAP workloads on AWS as example we will show how and why enterprises run different than before and how Disaster Recovery needs accelerate all in migrations to the cloud.

Presenter: Frank Stienhans, CTO Frank is an early cloud innovator with key architecture and operations contributions. In 2007, he was first to recognize the power of AWS for SAP use cases: His team build a self service SAP on AWS, serving more than 1000 employees with more than 11000 servers per month. Gaining tremendous operational expertise, SAP’s former CTO Vishal Sikka challenged Frank to demonstrate SAP HANA scalable performance with 1000 CPU cores, which were delivered as a SAP HANA aggregated system with 111 cloud machines. In 2013 Frank joined AWS Professional Services to build up the SAP Practice. He rolled out the first SAP HANA Production System in an Enterprise on AWS and many more since. Frank advised dozens of large global enterprises around the world on the best strategy, architecture and operations for SAP on AWS. At Ocean9, Frank’s team is continuously raising the bar for what is possible for Enterprise Solution Deployments and is passionate about assisting partners and customers in their journey to and in the cloud. Frank is considered the leading expert in his field and is the holder of 18 cloud related patents. © Copyright, 2016, Ocean9, Inc., All Rights Reserved
