What is College Credit Plus?

Opportunity to Earn College Credit College Credit Plus Opportunity to Earn College Credit Grades 7 – 12 College-ready students Many college course options Public colleges are free Private colleges may include small cost Ohio’s new College Credit Plus can help students earn college and high school credits at the same time by taking college courses from community colleges or universities. The purpose of this program is to promote rigorous academic pursuits and to provide a wide variety of options to college-ready students. Taking a college course from a public college or university College Credit Plus is free. That means no cost for tuition, books or fees. If you choose to attend a private college or university, you may have limited costs.

College-readiness determined by college. No minimum GPA required. College Credit Plus College-readiness determined by college. No minimum GPA required. College Readiness for most universities now is determined by ACT scores. In order to be accepted into Miami for CCP, students must earn a 22 in Reading and an 18 in English on the ACT. If ACT has not been taken, you may take the Accuplacer at Miami – you must receive an 80 or higher in Reading, 5 or higher in Writing, 55 or higher in Math. UC Blue Ash follows the same process … if you have taken the ACT, they will use the Act Scores. If you have not taken the ACT, and accuplacer test will be administered by the university.

Apply and Get Admitted Participate by getting admitted into a college. College Credit Plus Apply and Get Admitted Participate by getting admitted into a college. May have to take a placement test and other criteria. Miami’s application deadline is April 1 for summer semester / May 1st for Fall admittance. UC’s application deadline is April 1.

College Credit Plus Student Choice Students can choose any course that applies toward a degree or workforce certification at a public (or participating private) college. Students can choose any course that applies toward a degree or workforce certification at a public (or participating private) college. In addition to being non-remedial, College Credit Plus courses may not be religious in nature.

Graduate with College Credit College Credit Plus Graduate with College Credit Earn up to 30 college credit hours per academic year; Including Summer Term. No more than 120 college credit hours while in the program.

Summer Requirements CCP does include summer term courses College Credit Plus Summer Requirements CCP does include summer term courses

College Credit Plus Summer Requirements Summer term will apply as the 1st term of the next school year. A college’s summer term may begin in May. There may be multiple sessions within a summer term.

College Credit Plus Summer Requirements If you want to participate in summer term, you must submit your letter of intent to participate early enough to apply and gain admission to the college and register for course(s) in the spring. April 1st for Miami University – April 1st for UC ---- Here’s the deal… you have to apply and be accepted before applying for funding. You must have funding approved before you can enroll in courses. For Miami and UC... Summer terms begin in May. So, if you are wanting to do summer courses, I would give you a deadline of Feb 15th application so that you can get acceptance and turn around to apply for funding before April as enrollment for summer term opens up near the end of April beginning of May.

Nonpublic & Home School Students College Credit Plus Nonpublic & Home School Students Submit your letter of intent to participate Gain admission to the college Apply for and be awarded state funding. State funding will be awarded in/by May. If you choose to register for courses before funding awards are made, you will have to self-pay or drop the course(s) if you are awarded funds.

Find the Colleges and Courses that Fit College Credit Plus Find the Colleges and Courses that Fit Students have options Counselors will share sample pathways with you. Pathways are courses to help you choose, not obligate you. One of the great features offered with the CCP program is the Pathways feature. Participating colleges and universities have created course pathways to help ensure students are taking courses that will be beneficial for them and their future plans. As part of the paperwork packet I have given you, I included UCBA’s sample pathways for Psychology and Liberal Arts.

College Credit Plus A semester college course of 3 or more credits counts as a one-year high school class.

Under what scenarios can a qualified student use College Credit Plus?

College Credit Plus You want to take college courses to satisfy your high school graduation requirements. You completed your high school graduation required classes and you want to begin college work. You want to explore college and take a course in a subject that interests you.

Students attending a public college College Credit Plus Books and Fees Students attending a public college do not pay for fees. Students attending a private college may have a cost that includes fees. Book costs for both private and public colleges are at the expense of the student.

Consider Your Personal Academic Goals College Credit Plus Consider Your Personal Academic Goals Example of Caelyn Boyd – she has high goals for her post high school academic life --- her goal is to help reduce some of that cost by taking more classes at no cost during high school. Some students want to take a class that is more suited to their interests, some would like more of a challenge. Discuss with your student their reasons.

If you fail the class or drop it too late, you may have to pay for it. College Credit Plus If you fail the class or drop it too late, you may have to pay for it. Classes failed or withdrawn with an “F” will receive an “F” on the high school and college transcripts and will be computed into the high school and college GPA. If you do not receive a passing grade, the district may, in some instances, seek reimbursement for the amount of state funds paid to the college on your behalf for that college course. The school district may withhold grades and credits received for high school courses taken until reimbursement has been made.
