Southern African and Islands Hydrographic Commission (SAIHC) Report Activities completed since CBSC16 Hydrographic Awareness Seminar Victoria, Seychelles 27 August 2018 IHO, IMO and IALA ‘delivering as one’ Hydrography and the Blue Economy A 1 day Hydrographic Awareness Seminar was held in Victoria, Seychelles in August 2018. Funding was provided to: Angola, Comoros, Kenya, Madagascar, Malawi, Mauritius, Mozambique, Namibia, and Tanzania. IHO, IMO and IALA all presented to highlight the roles and responsibilities of states and to meet the UN goal of delivering as one. Southern African and Islands Hydrographic Commission (SAIHC) Report Challenges faced in the region Communication – Limited opportunities for engagement Environmental – Cyclone Idai & Kenneth Maritime Security The region has a number of challenges. Communication is often limited with few opportunities for engagement which is why there is so much value in the hydrographic Awareness seminars. Environmental challenges such as the recent cyclones leave a trail of destruction hindering development and impacting hydrography. South African and Islands Hydrographic Commission (SAIHC) Report Achievements and Lessons learned Increased RHC attendance by 20% Seychelles became the 88th member of the IHO Capacity building support in the region is vitally important and is assisted by Member states supporting the development of the hydrographic services of developing states.
