JPIAMR – Activity Update Laura Marin JPIAMR Head of Secretariat Swedish Research Council 02 April 2019
AMR is one of the ten threats to global health (WHO, 2019) AMR threatens a return to the pre-antibiotic era Annually in the EU: 33,100 patients die from multidrug resistant bacteria annually (EARS-net) extra health-care costs and productivity losses of at least €1500 million Euro per year AMR projection (2050): 10 million people die each year worldwide (O’Neill report)
Joint Programming Initiative on Antimicrobial Resistance Mission: To join forces across nations by leading the alignment, coordination, and support to Antimicrobial Resistance One Health collaborative research and global policy activities International collaborative platform that: aligns national research funding coordinates AMR research and funding on a global scale supports collaborative action for filling knowledge gaps on AMR with a One Health perspective

JPIAMR mapped national research investment: an overview National funding from 22 countries and the European Commission and the Wellcome Trust 6 JPIAMR priority areas Therapeutics, Diagnostics, Interventions, Transmission, Surveillance and Environment Increase in national investments to AMR research Need more investment with One Health approach 1 939 AMR projects 87% projects in antibiotic resistance 1 794 M€ total investment Check the dashboard for more info www.jpiamr.eu/amr-research-funding-dashboard/ Majority of investment is in Therapeutics Investment in Environment is low
Global AMR research investments and projects Dashboard: Database on AMR research landscape
Distribution of investment at national level per priority area of research in 2014 and 2017 JPIAMR mapping A better overall distribution of investment into the different priority areas categorised under the JPIAMR-SRA was observed in the 2017 JPIAMR mapping. Majority of investment is in therapeutics; but pipeline still empty A large gap for investments in environment at national levels still exists. Need to continue more efforts with One Health approach
