Exposing Data Management Plans WG Update RDA 13th Plenary April 2-4 Philadelphia, PA

What the Exposing DMPs group is doing: We are studying how sharing and publishing (aka exposing) data management plans can potentially benefit researchers, funders, institutions, and a variety of service providers and community organisations including repositories, researchers' umbrella institutions, journals, publishers, and providers of tools for writing and maintaining plans. Angus Whyte of Digital Curation Centre, Fiona Murphy of Murphy Mitchell Consulting Ltd, Kathryn Unsworth of the Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation(CSIRO), Marie-Christine Jacquemot-Perbal of Institute of Scientific and Technical Information(INIST) and Natalie Meyers of the University of Notre Dame.

Who we are: Chair (s): Angus Whyte, Fiona Murphy, Natalie Meyers, Kathryn Unsworth, Marie-Christine Jacquemot-Perbal RDA Secretariat Liaison: Lynn Yarmey | RDA TAB Liaison: Francoise Genova Angus Whyte of Digital Curation Centre, Fiona Murphy of Murphy Mitchell Consulting Ltd, Kathryn Unsworth of the Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation(CSIRO), Marie-Christine Jacquemot-Perbal of Institute of Scientific and Technical Information(INIST) and Natalie Meyers of the University of Notre Dame.

What we’ve been up to: A needs assessment/survey to gauge user needs and motivations for exposing DMPs as well as perceived risks and undesirable impacts. These survey results from the WG contribute to a better understanding of expectations related to sharing and publishing the content of data management plans. Piloted at P12, RDA Chairs Mtg then open for responses January 9 through March 27 2019 Survey Instrument https://www.rd-alliance.org/system/files/documents/ExposingDMPsQuestionnaire.pdf Data https://www.rd-alliance.org/system/files/documents/ExposingDMPsSurveyData.txt 571 Responses, 409 complete, 42 ~52% complete, 120 ~13% complete

Anticipated Outputs: Reference model including alternative strategies for exposing plans to best serve community interests in meeting FAIR principles, based on shared experience of ‘early adopters’ in test implementations. Supported by the survey work aimed toward gauging user needs and motivations for exposing DMP, as well as perceived risks and disbenefits.
