Fiction Text Structure Exposition Who/What/When/Where/Why leading up to our story. Conflict The primary struggle/problem/challenge for the main character. Rising Action All the events taking place from the discovery of the conflict to the climax. Climax The emotional scene at the end of the story where the conflict is going to be resolved. Resolution The happy or unhappy solution of the conflict.

Fiction Text Structure Analyze the text structure for The Devil’s Arithmetic. Exposition: What is the situation in the beginning? Who is Hannah? What is her situation. What is the setting? Conflict: Hannah has an internal conflict. Her lack of appreciation for family or history leads to her an unknown place. She thinks she’s Hannah, but, in time, she feels like Chaya. She must determine who she is and why this is all happening to her.
