Presentation transcript:

The Big Street Survey By Erin and Rafael

First Thing We shared our journeys to school, discussed what we liked about our journey and what we disliked. Then, we drew a map of our surrounding area. We then decided where we were going to investigate.

Out and About Outside, we visited 4 places. Grantham Road Shaftsbury Road Liverpool Road Guilford Road

What did we investigate? We drew what we could see eg: houses, people and trees. The bigger the picture the more of that thing we could see. We also counted how many pedestrians, bikes and vehicles we could see.

Back to Class After lunch, we looked at different scenarios at different schools and decided how to improve the area. We looked at ways to make them safer for children to walk/ride to school. After this, we thought about the area surrounding our own school and created a class manifesto to help solve some of the problems we came across.

OLOL MANIFESTO LIAM, KAJUS AND EVAN

Car engines All children should warn their parents not to keep their engines on when parked around school areas. It is dangerous and causes pollution to the world. We are going to make posters to warn parents of the dangers and put them up around our school area.

Safe roads The roads around our school are very busy during school drop off time. We think that there should be more speed bumps and the 20mph speed signs should be clearer.

Shaftsbury road Shaftsbury road is a very narrow Road. Most of the time, cars are parked on both sides. This makes it hard for pedestrians and cars to use the road. We think that this road should be a one way road and double yellow lines should be on one side.

Walk to school day Walk to school day is a good idea for many reasons. Firstly, it would limit the air pollution around our school. It is also a fantastic opportunity for children to exercise. Finally, it is a great chance for children to talk to their family.

Park and stride For park and stride, our class decided that it would be a good idea to park at aldi and walk the rest of the way to school. We are going to write a letter to the manager of aldi to ask them if this would be possible.
