What does oversight in government mean? OVERSIGHT is the act of overseeing or monitoring the performance of government implementing departments.

Oversight within municipal government Oversight &Portfolio committees Municipal council Play a political oversight of the municipality’s functions, programmes and the management of the administration. Provide financial oversight of the Municipality Municipal Public Accounts Committee (MPAC): Municipal Portfolio Committees These COMMITTEES are political created to play oversight role on administrative departments / directorates

Rights & responsibilities citizens Under Section 20 the RIGHT TO CITIZENSHIP expects that citizens are responsible for: obeying the laws of our country, ensuring that others do so as well, and contributing to South African development FREEDOM OF EXPRESSION: citizens can exercise this right responsible by advocating for issues that contribute to good governance

Rights & responsibilities citizens ACCESS TO INFORMATION (Section 32 of SA Constitution): You have the right to access government information, since GOVERNMENT EXISTS TO SERVE THE PUBLIC. The Promotion of Access to Information Act (PAIA) helps realise the right to access to information. It regulates how people go about getting information from government. Section 152 (1) (e) of the SA Constitution: Local Government must to encourage the involvement of communities and community organisations in the matters of local government. As citizens when you exercise these YOU ARE PARTICIPATING IN THE DEVELOPMENT OF YOUR LOCAL GOVERNMENT & COMMUNITIES.
