Examinations, Dissertation and Rotations Residents and Senior Residents 2019

Examinations The College conducts Primary examinations in March and September every year. Exit examination for Membership and Fellowship are also held in March and September each year Application Forms are made available at College and on the College website The required fees for the forms are paid and time table and Resident Numbers are issued Submission of completed Log Books within deadline

EXAMINATIONS REQUIREMENTS - FORMS SUBMISSION ONE RECENT PASSPORT PICTURE MDC CURRENT RETENTION CERTIFICATE OR EVIDENCE FOR PAYMENT SELF ADDRESSED ENVELOP WITH POSTAGE STAMP Note: this is under review EVIDENCE OF AT LEAST TWO CPD ATTENDANCE WITHIN THE TRAINING PERIOD (THIS APPLIES TO MEMBERSHIP AND FELLOWSHIP CANDIDATES) Ghana Post is designing a customized envelop for the College

CONDITIONS FOR FINAL EXAMINATIONS Candidates must fulfill all academic and financial obligations to be allowed to write an examination  Failure to fulfill all financial obligations will have the following consequences: result of performance in examinations will not be released certificate will not be released.

E-Log Books The Chief Examiner of Faculty will examine E-Log Books with the attached Certificate of Training at least two months before the Membership/Fellowship examinations. A Resident with an incomplete or unsatisfactory Log Book Will Not Be permitted to take the examination. By satisfactory we mean at least 80% of Deliverables in the Logbook

DEFERMENT OF EXAMINATION APPROVAL CONSIDERED UNDER FOLLOWING CONDITION MEDICAL GROUNDS SUPPORTED WITH MEDICAL REPORT

DEFERMENT (CONT’D) DEFERMENT WILL NOT BE CONSIDERED IF: Forms are received later than Six weeks before the date of Examination – 25% of Exams Fees is surcharged Received within six weeks of Examination date – No Refund

EXTENSION PERIOD FOR WRITING EXAMINATION Residents who do not pass their examination at the first sitting, may, with the approval of the training institution, be granted a further six months extension in the training position in order to take the examination again.

Proposal/Dissertation All Senior Residents shall have at least one but not more than two dissertation supervisors from amongst the Fellows of the Faculty of the College Guidelines for writing proposals and dissertations must be strictly adhered to. for example, format of references, presentation format, font size and line spacing etc, must be adhered to when submitting dissertations for the award of Fellowship in the College. The guidelines can be found on the College website: www.gcps.edu.gh

EXAMINATION DAY – WRITTEN PAPERS DON’TS NO ENTRY INTO EXAM HALL AFTER THIRTY MINUTES PROGRAMMABLE SCIENTIFIC CALCULATORS AND PHONES ARE NOT ALLOWED INTO THE EXAM HALL QUESTION BOOKLETS ARE NOT TO BE TAKEN OUT OF THE EXAM HALL NO MOBILE PHONES

ROTATIONS/EXTERNAL ROTATIONS Residents shall rotate through the major specialties during their training. After each 3-6 months rotation, each resident will have a written and clinical assessment. The results and a written report will be submitted to the Rector of the Ghana College

ROTATIONS/EXTERNAL ROTATIONS Individual procedures and observations are to be recorded in the E-logbooks and are to be signed off by a supervisor soon after completing procedure Certificate of training will need to be completed and signed by supervising Consultants. Thank you
