1. About NREN NREN is a service provider Serving only Educational institutions/Universities. Offers highest dedicated Bandwidth Not in the business/Commercial Service Provider Being a member of NRENs is necessary to easily get access of other Regional and Global digital resources. 7/6/2019

2. About Ethernet EthERNet is Ethiopian National Research and Education Network (NREN) 36 universities are already connected to Ethernet network; 40G backbone network with 10G access each. The optical (fiber) backbone is built on highly reliable OPGW and ADSS on EEU high voltage lines. 4841 Km of fibers are used Total investment is around 1.2 billion ETB Exchange Point/Internet Gateway is at EthERNet Data Center in Addis Ababa to peer with neighboring NRENs (SudREN, KENET, SolmaliREN) and ultimately will connect to UbuntuNet, GiANT, Internet2 and to other global research and education network. Current Member of UbuntuNet Alliance (Regional Research and Education Netwok)

5. Services Provided By EthERNet Technical support in all areas of ICT for Public Universities including training, project management, consulting (by coordinating clusters, MCIT, INSA, Ethio Telecom) etc. Highly available Datacenter facility equipped Network Operation Center EthERNet is about to start a Private Cloud for higher education called EduCloud. The proposed EduCloud will be a centralized private cloud service that will provide Email DNS and Web Hosting for 10 Universities with future expansion capability to more than 36 universities. (SAAS, PAAS and IAAS are included). NADRE Services (Online learning platform courses.ethernet.edu.et agenda.ethernet.edu.et, discourse.ethernet.edu.et, nadre.ethernet.edu.et). Hosts National Entrance exams every year Videoconferencing Service for 36 universities Freely opened ICT academies Huwaei, Oracle, Microsoft and Cisco (helps students to gain industry knowledge)

6. EthERNet Phase II Project 1. More than 50 higher education will be a member of EthERNet network. 2. Meshed transmission The transmission network will be meshed topology, and the ring topology shall increase from 2 to 5 Rings. This will enhance the network security, strengthen service availability. 3. Full OPGW migration Most of the fiber route uses the existing OPGW cable, but needs to migrate the rest that uses the existing ET’s optical fiber cable. 4. Redundancy at the aggregation layer For the aggregation layer, one more AG router will be added for each aggregation site 7/6/2019
