SIPDE, Scenarios, ……. and MORE UPDATES to Classroom Units 5, 6, and 7 Rick Smith Mark Bookbinder

Workshop Agenda Why the updates What’s new Let’s get to work – workshop activities Wrap up

Why the Updates Two year review cycle Instructor feedback LITE and Chief observations Continuous improvement

What’s New Simplified classroom companion Streamlined flow of PowerPoint Re-did SIPDE Bolded material in companion must say/do Non-bolded material is a guide Scenario slides

Workshop – Classroom Simulation How this is going to work and your task assignments Break into 6 groups and assign 2 groups to each section First assignment – record on flip chart What has changed with the companion and the PowerPoint How it will alter your delivery of this section in 2019 (10 min)

Workshop – Classroom Simulation - continued NEXT – 1 group presents section 5 and the other section 5 group simulates as the students (10 min) Second groups critiques what they liked and would have done different (5 min) Repeat for section 6 then 7 For Unit 5, more than one person can be involved in presenting. Caution: What if they have missed important points? Be watchful for strong willed who pushes it must be done one way. Use the 10 minutes to walk around and check their understanding and progress. Make sure they are on track. Use deck of cards to select which group will present.

Wrap up No changes to student workbook Many slides are the same Underlying concepts are the same Order of coverage is the same Better flow of PowerPoint Companion Guide easier to follow Conceptual wrap-PP slides now set up with verbiage from the RG and every unit capstones with RG verbiage. Companion notes are available verbatim as notes in the slide when in the slide show presenter mode Scenario slide in the Companion for Unit 6. In cornering, right before the wrap-up, important to emphasize a good approach. Unit 7 commonality in each slide-left turning vehicles are in most of the slides. What will you do. Reminder-we do not do the ”what if” quiz game as we may have been doing in the past. It is up to the students to use. Consider using words like “quick tip” to emphasize something or something missed. Use a flip chart to capture “quick tips” Revisit the groups flip charts if time permits
