Day 56 Fiction, The Most Dangerous Game, and Grammar review

Objectives Identify the role characterization plays in plot. Understand how theme is woven into every portion of a story. Homework Fiction Test 4/28 Grammar Final 5/3 Bring Headphones Beginning course details and/or books/materials needed for a class/project.

Agenda Warm Up Guided Practice – Grammar Review Guided Notes – Figurative Language The Most Dangerous Game MDG worksheet Closure A schedule design for optional periods of time/objectives.

Warm Up- Pre-reading questions Write a short response for each question: 1. What is the most dangerous game (hunted animal)? 2. What does it take to be a hunter? 3. What does it take to be a survivor? Introductory notes.

Grammar Review Work with your partner to complete the grammar practice. Make sure to write your name on top. Converse with your partner only. Stay on task and submit when finished.

Figurative language Whenever you are describing something by comparing it to something else, you are using figurative language

Simile and metaphor Simile-> comparing one thing to another by using “like” or “as”. Ex: You jump from tree to tree like a squirrel. Metaphor-> comparing one thing to another without using “like” or “as”. Ex: You are a so agile! You are a squirrel.

Personification and hyperbole Personification-> giving non-human things the characteristics of a human. Ex: the dog yelled, “I’m hungry!” Hyperbole -> a gross exaggeration that is not believable. Ex: I’m so hungry that I could eat a horse!

Onomatopoeia and Alliteration Onomatopoeia -> the use of a word to imitate the natural sound made by an object. Ex: Bang! The door slammed shut. Alliteration -> The repetition of the same initial letter, sound, or group of sounds in a series of words. Ex -> She sells sea shells by the seashore.

The Sniper You will get 10 minutes to finish the sniper and the graphic organizer that goes with it. Make sure you get that turned in.

The Most Dangerous Game Download the story from Google Classroom. Pay attention to plot, theme, and characterization. As you read, click on the audio file if you want to listen and follow along.

The Most Dangerous Game Answer the questions concerning the tale as we read. Make sure to answer in complete sentences and on a separate sheet of paper. Write your name at the top.

Story Analysis I will put you into 3 person groups. I will hand you a discussion sheet. Discuss the story and use the question sheet to drive your conversation. Answer each question.

Closure Construct 3 sentences. The sentences must include vocabulary words. You must demonstrate clauses in each sentence. An opportunity for questions and discussions.
