Measuring the Temperature and Voltage of a Lithium Ion Battery Ian Buck
Outline Purpose The Battery Procedure Materials Results
Purpose The Purpose of the project is to test for battery life through charging and discharging. While charging and discharging, temperature must be monitored for safety.
The Battery: Specifications Li-ion Battery 55 cells 175 Volts
Materials: NTC Thermistor NTC Thermistor’s were used to read voltage and from the voltage, and temperature was calculated. As the Temperature changed, so did the resistance.
Materials: Board Sensors attached to each battery cell Thermistor’s attached to two cells in each row Board then connects to Laptop
Materials: Software LTC6804/LTC6811 Multicell Monitor Logs Data from board into an excel
Results: General input/output Temperature
Results: General input/output Voltage
Labview Program The purpose of the Matlab program is to graph the data after the test, whereas the Labview Program is to show the temperature and voltage during the Test
Voltage The program reads the voltage data from the data-log. The program displays the average voltage of each row. The graph is the voltage of the whole battery.
Temperature For Temperature, the program displays the general temperature for each thermistor. The graph displays average temperature of all thermistors
