Presentation transcript:

Reducing the risk

Kyoto Protocol Treaty ratified in 1997 that required all developed nations to decease emissions of greenhouse gases by an average of 5% by 2012. US did not ratify the Kyoto Protocol in 2012.

The Paris Agreement

The Paris Agreement Landmark environmental accord that was adopted by nearly every nation in 2015 to address climate change and its negative impacts. The deal aims to include commitments from all major emitting countries to cut their climate-altering pollution and to strengthen those commitments over time. The pact also provides a pathway for developed nations to assist developing nations in their climate mitigation and adaptation efforts, and it creates a framework for the transparent monitoring, reporting, and ratcheting up of countries’ individual and collective climate goals.

The Green New Deal 2019 policy that seeks to solve the climate crisis by combining quick action to completely eliminate greenhouse gas emissions and implement 100% renewable energy by 2030 in all buildings, factories, housing, etc. It would also include an “Economic Bill of Rights” which would guarantee every American the right to affordable healthcare, a guaranteed job at a living wage, affordable housing and free college education. (All this made possible by the projected economic boom of a new green economy)
