Agenda – Network Meeting

Updates Safeguarding Audits – Next Steps Changes to KCSIE Safeguarding Policy LSCB Update Police reports

Safeguarding Audits High Risk – (In part or No) Policy Intimate Care Policy School Security Harassment and discrimination Have all staff been asked to read the summary of “Keeping Children Safe in Education” and do you have a signed record of this? Have the governing body nominated a governor to liaise with the LADO for allegations against the head teacher

Safeguarding Audits High Risk – (In part or No) Protocol Is there a protocol for dealing with allegations against children and is this stated in your safeguarding policy? Is there a policy or procedure in place for ensuring that visitors to the school are suitable and checked and monitored as appropriate [for example, external speakers at school assemblies] Have all members of the governing body attended safeguarding training and/or are aware of the roles and responsibility of the governing body?

Whistle-blowing Policy

Police reports Department of Education Keeping children safe in education 2016 - “It is important for children to receive the right help at the right time to address risks and prevent issues escalating. Schools and colleges should work with social care, the police, health services and other services to promote the welfare of children.”

The new process… As of DSL meeting ion Jan 2018 Thames Valley Police will send an automated notification email (which is password protected) within 24hrs to the school with details of: Date and time of incident Name and age of child present Home address and incident address NICHE occurrence number (the police reference number) However it will not identify the adults involved, the nature and seriousness of the crimes disclosed (if any) or what the police are doing about it. It is simply sent so schools can be ready to help and support children and families if they are distressed.

The role of schools The child may be unaware that a domestic incident has occurred or, on other occasions, there may be a significant impact on the child. The notification will not make this distinction. It is simply sent for your awareness. Schools are not expected to discuss or question the child or parents about the incident, but should be ready to respond and support them if the need arises. Don’t make the notification common knowledge but perhaps inform key staff discreetly. This notification does not replace existing Child protection processes and any further concerns should be reported in the usual manner. MASH will continue to review police reports, sharing them with Children’s Social Care in the normal manner.

What’s next? Information Sharing Agreement The school Head should contact ENCompass@thamesvalley.pnn.police.uk and confirm that the school will abide by the Information Sharing Agreement and manage the information correctly; Decide now how your school will deal with any notifications and plan accordingly. The notification is confidential, so only share the information with staff who may need to know and do not print it out. You should record what, if anything, you do about the notification.
