Story Structure Narrative writing

What are the five elements of a story? Theme Plot or story arc Conflict Students already know a lot about creating settings, characters and themes in a story. T should really elicit what they know like: different types of characters in a story\ what the theme is\ how do we create a mood or atmosphere via setting etc. Setting Characters

Plot elements – Story Arc Watch the video below about plot elements: Be ready to discuss! https://www.flocabulary.com/unit/plot- elements/ Plot elements – Story Arc

Story Arc: Narrative texts are structured into a five-part story arc. At the beginning, the reader learns about the setting and characters and the situation they are in. Next, the characters encounter conflicts or obstacles they must overcome. This causes action, suspense, tension and excitement in the story begins to rise. In the middle, the story reaches it’s turning point - the climax. Then, the characters start to solve the problems, overcoming the obstacles. At the end, all conflicts are resolved and the characters’ goals are achieved, coming to a conclusion. Story Arc: Narrative texts are structured into a five-part story arc. Ss may take notes in their notebooks

Story Arc for Echo and Narcissus Narcissus continues to break hearts, scorning and refusing the nymphs. The Gods get angry an curse him, so he falls in love with his own reflection. Echo continues to yearn for Narcissus and dies in grief. Story Arc for Echo and Narcissus Narcissus suffers the same way that the nymphs had suffered because his reflection cannot love him back. Echo is cursed by Hera. Then she has an encounter with Narcissus and heartlessly gets refused by him. Ashamed she moves to the mountains. Example from short stories booklet As a result, Narcissus suffers and dies like other nymphs who loved him. Leaving behind, Echo’s voice and a beautiful flower. The setting and characters Echo and Narcissus are introduced.

Conflict Watch the video below: Be ready to answer the following questions: What is conflict? What are the different types of conflict? What is the difference between internal and external conflict? https://www.flocabulary.com/unit/conflict/video/ Conflict T elicits other types of conflicts that are not in the video like character vs supernatural \ character vs technology \ character vs fate

Readers usually choose stories that have the kind of end goals that they like. For example, a reader might like romance that ends happily, an action story in which the hero saves the day or a detective story in which a crime is solved. What the video to remember the different types of genres in narrative writing: https://www.flocabulary.com/unit/genres-of-fiction/ Story Genres
