Re-cap measurements

Metric Unit Facts Length Weight Capacity 10mm = 1cm 100cm = 1m 1000mm = 1m 1000m = 1km 1000mg = 1g 1000g = 1kg 100cl = 1 litre 1000ml = 1 litre

Perimeter, Area and Volume Ask class if anyone plans on buying their own house in the future? Yes – well then you are going to need to know about area, volume and perimeter. Explain about Functional skills being ‘functional’.

Break time

Volume = L x W x H Volume is the total amount of space that shape takes up. Formula is L x W x H Remember it is measured in cubic units (cm³) Make notes on volume in workbooks Complete equation grid. Explain that there is equations for volume of other shapes but L1’s/L2’s aren’t required to know this and it will be covered at later date with L3’s. 5x6x10 = 300cm³

Radius is half the measurement of the diameter Circles Level 2 Circumference There are two important formulas for you to learn. Circumference of a circle is C=𝜋𝐷 (perimeter) Area of a circle is 𝐴=𝜋 𝑟 2 Radius Diameter Radius is half the measurement of the diameter

Use the equations to help you. What is the radius of the following shape What is the circumference and area of the following shape? Use the equations to help you. Work through examples Point out that last example they don’t have equation for and will have to think laterally using other equations.

Applying skills from last week and this week… Use knowledge and skills from last week’s lesson and this week’s at answer questions on the area and perimeter using the scale drawing provided.
