How Per Capita Should Work General Assembly Synod The churches fill the pool with per capita contributions. The funds fill the budgets of the General Assembly, Synod, and Presbytery. Synod requests the smallest amount; presbytery the largest. Presbytery

What’s Actually Happening General Assembly Synod Presbytery With so many contributing churches, we might not notice one that did not send in its per capita apportionment. [1] As churches decline in membership and feel pressure on their own budgets, some might contribute less, or stop contributing altogether. [2] The trend continues, and now the pool is not so full. [click until the drops have disappeared.] Presbytery still sends the full apportionment to General Assembly [click] and Synod [click], leaving less for the presbytery to do ministry. [click]

Recommendations Add to the pool Seek and apply for grants Solicit voluntary contributions from Individual church and minister members Seminaries Non-congregational ministries Communicate expectations & responsibilities Include in leadership training Per capita Mission partnerships Presbytery grant opportunities Develop consistent training for sessions Encourage prompt per capita remittance Briefly note grants and voluntary contributions. Only congregations are assessed. As a presbytery with 140+ clergy, and a few non-chartered worshiping communities, could some help? Educate! Do we want that mission to happen? Presbytery can help fund mission – if it has the funds. Emphasize prompt remittance. Some participating churches thought they were contributing, but they were not. Questions?
