What is Government? When you hear the word “government,” what do you think of? A Government is a political body with the power to: 1) make laws 2) enforce those laws 3) interpret the laws Oversees the general welfare of people

Distribution of Power Government distributes power through three systems: Unitary System Confederation Federal System

There are 3 Systems of government.

Unitary Systems Give all of the power to the central government Central government may transfer power to smaller political units like states Examples include: Japan South Korea

Confederation Loose alliance of countries or other political units like states Each unit has final control of its own laws and citizens Can be unstable because members want their own way!!!

Federal System Divide power between the central government and smaller political units. Give a lot of power to the lower governments to handle local affairs EX: United States
