A. To express a date in French, the formula is… le + Ex. – le le # + 14 20 Month décembre juillet

B. Exception - The first of the month is… le premier (1er) Use it express the first day of any month. Ex. - C’est le premier mai. (It’s May 1st.)

C. In front of all numbers, even those that… begin with a vowel or silent “h,” the French use le and never l’ or any other article. Ex. – le onze le huit

D. Can I write the date in numerical form? Oui! When abbreviating dates in French, the day always comes first. Ex. - le deux août 2011 > 2/8/2011 le premier novembre 2011 > 1/11/2011

E. When giving the day of the week with the date… Put the day of the week first in your date expression. Ex. - C’est lundi le douze (12) octobre. (It is Monday, October 12th.)

F. To give the year… Place the year at the end of your date expression -- Ex. 2000 = deux mille 2001 = deux mille un 2005 = deux mille cinq

2025= deux mille vingt-cinq 2010 = deux mille dix 2011 = deux mille onze

C’est mardi le seize (16) juillet deux mille onze (2011). Par exemple… C’est mardi le seize (16) juillet deux mille onze (2011).
