Instructions for Data Base Using your Data Base from Your Hard Drive

Instructons When you open the USB folder you will find a single folder called Chemistry Folder. Copy the entire contents to your Desktop or to your Hard Drive. The next step will depend on the letter your computer uses for your Desktop or Hard Drive.

Instructions In my case my computer uses the C: drive.

Instructions Use the search to find the Command Prompt. The following command will mount the folder as a hard drive labelled X and all links should work perfectly, because as far as the computer is concerned it is on a USB stick called x: Type the following: subst x: "C:\Chemistry Folder" If your hard drive is D substitute the letter D for C in the command line.

Instructions If you want to give the resource to someone else or you want to put it on another computer, the following might help. You can create a blank text file and paste this command into it. Then saving it by giving it a suitable name and changing the file extension of the file to .bat instead of .txt. Put this file in the Chemistry Folder and when you want to use the Data Base click the .bat file. The file will open a command prompt itself, run that command and close the command prompt.

Instructions To create a text file just right click on the desktop. Select New. Choose Text Document

Instructions Type the same command into this Blank Text file. subst x: "C:\Chemistry Folder" Next click on File and choose Save As… Write a suitable name but change the type of file from .txt to .bat Select your Chemistry Folder and save it inside the folder.

Instructions Now when using the Data Base on your new computer you click on the .bat file and the command is executed and off you go. Click on the Excel File Chemistry Planning Template as normal and all the links should work.
