SCRIPTURE READING: I Corinthians 10:1-13 Present-Tense Salvation: interrupting the interrupters God’s way of Escape from our three Enemies SCRIPTURE READING: I Corinthians 10:1-13

INTRODUCTION Believers have 3 enemies that attempt to interrupt their ongoing and growing relationship with God. These attempted interruptions always begin in the thought processes of the believer’s mind. These mental interruptions, if left unchecked, will lead to acts of sin (lawlessness).

INTRODUCTION James 1:13-15 explains this process that progresses from a bad thought to an act of sin. (evil) lust = strong desire from one of the 3 enemies Temptation = focusing/concentrating on this lust & considering how this lust might be acted upon. Trespass = determination to act upon the lust. Sin = the result of acting upon the lust. Death = An uninterrupted pattern of sin results in physical death for the believer, as a result of God’s loving discipline (Heb 12:6).

Stopping the Enemy-Interruption at the Mental Stage of Lust Be in the state of mind concerning things of the Holy Spirit (i.e. being spiritual) Rom 8:5-6, cf Gal 6:8 Saying ‘no’ (“denying”) to ungodliness and worldly lusts Titus 2:11-12

Stopping the Enemy-Interruption at the Mental Stage of Temptation Temptation is not sin or defeat Jesus was tempted, but did not yield to it Matt 4:1-4 God the Father limits the allowance of the temptation of each believer I Cor 10:13 James 1:12 (He does not cause the temptation)

Stopping the Enemy-Interruption at the Mental Stage of Temptation Temptation, recognized by a spiritual believer. Can be cause for joy by using God’s way of escape in order to ‘bear up under’ it as long as it is a viable temptation James 1:2 I Cor 10:13

Stopping the Enemy-Interruption at the Mental Stage of Trespass By lack of opportunity, but leaves the believer vulnerable to future temptations By another believer who is spiritual and proceeds to ‘adjust’ (‘restore’ KJV) the believer who is caught in a trespass Gal 6:1

The Results of Unstopped Enemy-Interruption An act of sin Continued interrupted acts of sin result in an ‘early home-going’ James 1:15

CONCLUSION Grace believers must recognize The process of unrighteous mental thoughts that will eventually result in acts of sin That this thought process can be stopped At the lust stage by saying “no!” to the lust At the temptation stage by using God’s way of escape for each of the 3 enemy- interrupters.
