Lesson #30 Circles.

Let’s concentrate and get our minds A…round This concept!

Yep…Circles are round… And they have some very unique Properties…

Like… The distance from one side to the other, passing through the centre, is called the diameter.

Half of that… Is called the Radius.

That makes the diameter… Twice as big as the Radius Right…

As the diameter grows longer… But there’s more… As the diameter grows longer…

So does the… Circumference.

Yep, the Circumference…the distance all the way around a circle!

3 times As a matter of fact… The Circumference increases a little more than 3 times the size of the diameter.

Most math calculations use… 3.14 to represent this increase. Scholars (and students)call 3.14 PI

Well, if you take the circumference Why 3.14 ??? Well, if you take the circumference

Of any circle… And then divide it by the diameter… You will get something VERY close to 3.14 Depending on the accuracy of your measuring tape.

Try it at home… It really works.

The diameter is 2 times the radius. Sooooooo. The diameter is 2 times the radius. The radius is half the diameter.

The circumference divided by the diameter = 3.14 That means that the diameter times 3.14 = the circumference, right.

It also means that the diameter… Times 3.14 = The Circumference!

Lettuce use some abbreviations… R= Radius D = Diameter C = Circumference 3.14= Pi

You must be ready… for 10 practice questions.

Question # 1 R= 8 D = ?

Question # 2 D = 10 R = ?

Question # 3 D = 10 C = ?

Question # 4 C = 314 D = ?

Question # 5 R = 1 C = ?

Question # 6 C = 31.4 R = ?

Question # 7 R = 50 C = ?

Question # 8 D = 1000 C = ?

Question # 9 C = 3140 D = ?

Question # 10 C = 6.28 R = ?

And now the answers. Prepare Yourself !

Question # 1 R = 8 D = 16

Question # 2 D = 10 R = 5

Question # 3 D = 10 C = 31.4

Question # 4 C = 314 D = 100

Question # 5 R = 1 C = 6.28

Question # 6 C = 31.4 R = 5

Question # 7 R = 50 C = 314

Question # 8 D = 1000 C = 3140

Question # 9 C = 3140 D = 1000

Question # 10 C = 6.28 R = 1
