Introduction to Research What was the purpose of the study? How was the study set up? What were the results? What stands out as potentially questionable in the conduct of this study? Milgram’s Obedience Study

Ethical Guidelines in Psychological Research 6 Guidelines provided by the APA (American Psychological Association). Experiments and studies must be reviewed by an IRB (Institutional Review Board). 1 Obligation to analyze and report research fairly and accurately. 2 Preserving the welfare and dignity of research participants. (both animal and human) 3 Protect participants from immediate distress or risk.

Ethical Guidelines in Psychological Research 4 Protect participants from long term harm. 5 Inform prospective participants about every aspect of the study that might influence their decision to participate. 6 Debrief participants as soon as the study is over by revealing all relevant information about research and correct misconceptions.
